The Wine Bar Keeping Solvang Up Past Eight Began as a Tasting-Room Rethink

"It was just a smaller reinvention of what I was already doing, a shift from declining sales in the wine tasting room and figuring out the pivot that still kept me in the wine world." That's John Wright, founder of Standing Sun Wines, speaking to the Santa Barbara Independent about Analogue Room, the vinyl listening lounge he opened this summer at the corner of Mission Drive and Alisal Road.

On Friday and Saturday nights, the hours Analogue Room publishes run until 10 p.m. Few other places in downtown Solvang list hours that late. Most of what gives the town an evening this fall comes from the same place Wright did. Wine operators are pushing past the usual daytime tasting hours, a new restaurant has built its ground floor as a lounge, and the Wednesday market now carries its own evening calendar into December.

The corner that changed hands

Founder's Square sits at 1693 Mission Drive, the eastern gateway to downtown. It used to be Denmarket Square. Visit Solvang now lists a mix of independent tenants there. Rooted Vine Cellars, in its first tasting room. SYV Creamery for ice cream. CHOMP for burgers and shakes. Natalie Groves Gallery, Andrea's Heart jewelry, Meadow Studio Flowers, The Giving Ink, and The Coffee House by CHOMP.

At Noozhawk, columnist Laurie Jervis wrote in late August 2026 that the prior tenants had moved out of Analogue Room's space "last August," and that Wright spent the year since putting all his energy into the new room. The room debuted in July 2026, according to the Santa Maria Sun. Wright, a former East Coast preservation architect, designed and built the space himself, down to the furnishings and finishes.

The corner's evening day starts at 4 p.m., when Analogue Room opens. CHOMP's own site lists daily hours of 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., so until then the square has burgers and a wine bar running side by side. After 8 p.m. on weekends, only the records are still spinning.

A tasting counter for wineries that don't have one

The way the room pours explains why it exists. Wright told the Independent that he and General Manager Blake Economus choose the wines with a focus on "local small-production wineries, most without tasting rooms." The list runs to close to 20 wines by the glass, and they are working toward 100 bottles. The room's own site says some of those local wines come from runs of only 25 to 50 cases.

That makes Analogue Room a shared evening counter for producers who have no storefront in town, run by a winemaker who has one in Buellton. Few places in Solvang let you taste those wines after dark.

The music works on the same local logic. Economus told the Independent that some of the records come from Off the Record, a vinyl boutique across the street. Customers also bring in their own albums and play them. The Santa Ynez Valley News describes a custom high-fidelity sound system and a vinyl-only program. DJs and guest selectors play soul, jazz, rock, funk, hip-hop and world music. Wright told the Independent his model was the Japanese "Jazz Kissa" hi-fi listening rooms he had seen on his travels, though he said he "did not take it that far."

The food has a local source too. Side Hustle Pizza is led by Santa Ynez Valley chef Joe Blanchard. It turns out focaccia-style pies, Margherita and pepperoni included, plus seasonal versions built around ingredients from the Solvang Farmers Market.

Different outlets list different weekly schedules. Visit Solvang and the Santa Maria Sun give Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 4 to 10 p.m. Noozhawk lists Thursday through Saturday until 10 and Sunday and Monday until 8. Check analogueroom.com before you go, especially on a Tuesday or Sunday.

The rest of the after-five map

Analogue Room isn't the only daytime business with something going on in the evening. Most of the places below are wine businesses.

Place Where What happens after five Published evening hours
Analogue Room 1693 Mission Dr., Suite 105 Vinyl, small-production wine, Side Hustle Pizza Until 8 p.m. most open nights, until 10 p.m. Fri and Sat

KANOK Thai Cuisine 435 Alisal Rd. Dinner upstairs, lounge bar downstairs Dinner from 5 p.m., until 9 p.m. Fri and Sat

Final Girl Wines keeps its tasting room open until 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Flights of five wines are $25, and glasses and spritzes start at $13. The site also says the room "can even accommodate outside of standard hours" for private bookings. This October it ran an 8 p.m. horror movie series for ages 15 and up. Tickets were $30 and included a glass of wine or a non-alcoholic drink, and the series closed on October 24 with What We Do in the Shadows.

KANOK is the restaurant on the list, and it's set up for lingering as much as dining. Owner Preaw Chamchoi officially opened it in mid-November 2025, on her birthday, after six months of renovating the two-story building on Alisal Road. The Santa Maria Sun reports that the ground floor is arranged like a living room, with a sofa, big chairs and a long bar. Chamchoi pictured it as a place for small bites or a drink. Upstairs are the dining room, a second bar and an open kitchen. The restaurant's Wednesday hours are listed differently in different places, so call before planning a midweek dinner.

Halloween weekend at the cellar

The Good Life Cellar at 1672 Mission Drive holds its annual Halloween Party and Costume Contest this Saturday, October 31, from 7 to 11 p.m. There will be prizes for the top costumes, plus local craft beer, small-production wine, cider and mead. It's 21 and over. The cellar's calendar also carries a monthly Meet Your Maker afternoon. Earlier this week it hosted Fireside Frights, where each storyteller got ten minutes for a spooky tale, poem or song.

Wednesday already had an evening, and December lengthens it

Long before Founder's Square reopened, Solvang had one shared weeknight gathering. The Wednesday farmers market runs year-round from 2:30 to 6 p.m. along First Street next to Solvang Park. In September, Reviewed readers voted it second in the "Best Farmers Markets of 2026," behind Copley Square in Boston and ahead of Charleston, as the Santa Barbara Independent reported. Downtown San Luis Obispo was the only other California market in the top ten. The same market supplies some of the seasonal toppings on Joe Blanchard's pizzas at Founder's Square, which ties the Wednesday afternoon to the weekend nights.

Julefest stretches that Wednesday later. Visit Solvang lists these evenings between Thanksgiving and New Year's:

  • November 27 to January 3: Julefest runs the whole stretch, with light-and-music shows nightly at 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 p.m.
  • December 2, 9, 16 and 23: The Julefest Maker's Market sets up in Solvang Park from 3 to 7 p.m. alongside the farmers market, so on those four Wednesdays the market keeps going an hour past its usual close.
  • Friday, December 4: The Solvang Tree Lighting is at 5:30 p.m. in Solvang Park, 1630 Mission Drive.
  • Saturday, December 5: The Julefest Parade runs from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Visit Solvang suggests checking event status before you head out. The tree lighting falls on a Friday, so you can walk from Solvang Park down Mission Drive to Founder's Square and still have most of an evening left on Analogue Room's published weekend hours.

When a corner like Founder's Square changes tenants, homeowners nearby tend to wonder what the change means for the blocks around it.
